Troy Aidan Sambajon is a general assignment reporter. Based in Boston, he started as a newsroom intern at the Monitor in early 2023.
His most resonant stories spotlight how ordinary people create extraordinary change. In Oakland, he captured the power of community in a piece about how grassroots activism can transform neglected urban spaces. His reporting on the nationwide decline in opioid deaths and on a retired bishop forging peace by turning guns into garden tools both reveal his strength at finding hope and humanity within America’s toughest crises.
Troy is a 2022 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he studied Global Studies and French. He's interested in world culture, society, and solutions. Generally speaking, he's interested in the ever-changing world and the people doing their best to live in it. "Every person's story, no matter how big or small, reflects the light of history."
